Trees
Trees can appear in infinite ways: eccentric outlines, unusual foliage, wild proportions. And at the same time, a “simple” and “classic” tree remains just as complete. It fascinates me how trees adapt, and whether they conform to the familiar or embody the rare and unexpected, they are still undeniably perfect.
Drawn in MediBang
For my 50 Shades project, I chose trees. They’ve always amazed me, they’re everywhere and yet never the same!
I began my 50 renderings with simple sketches, with basic shapes and lines anyone might use to draw a tree. But as I progressed, I started experimenting more and more.
While experimenting, I tried focusing on one thing. I started by sketching a tree without lifting my pen, then playing with only geometric shapes, or circles, or curvy lines, which I then associated with the human silhouette, so I blended a tree with a human shape. Then I mixed different ideas, combining the geometric shapes with the human figure in a tree. Later, I combined the foliage with a fire flame and a star.
I was surprised and loved how the essence of a tree didn’t disappear. It made me realize how much recognition comes from our imagination filling in the gaps. This assignment reminded me to let go, to explore possibilities and ideas—even the strange ones.
