- Week 6 -
Understanding Comics & Iteration

I enjoyed this week’s reading — Carolyn Snyder walks us through the process and real benefits of paper prototyping, especially in the context of web development. I find myself agreeing a lot with her perspective. In my experience developing VR simulations, I go through a very similar early-stage process. That first stage is all about exploring the big picture, making fast changes, and sharing ideas as quickly as possible before anything becomes “too finished.”

Personally, I’ll write explanatory notes, sketch over screenshots, do quick photobashing, or even use reference photos and videos to communicate concepts. I’ve also seen colleagues express whole interaction flows with just a quick pencil comic, and it was more than enough to understand the core idea and direction. So I completely align with the idea of using rough, lightweight methods at the beginning. It keeps the conversation focused on intention rather than polish, and it saves a lot of time in the long run. Setting a solid foundation before jumping into production is always worth it.
